Black History Month events aim to build knowledge and community on campus

LCC will honor Black History Month with 11 events built around the theme “African Americans in the Time of War.”

Events include:

  • Jazz, Hip-Hop and Soul Kick-Off Weekend Concert, 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, and 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, in Dart Auditorium
  • 13th Annual Community Health Fair, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, in the Gannon Highway
  • Third Annual Black Business Expo, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, in the Gannon Highway
  • Malcolm X Symposium – A Time of War Panel, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, in the Gannon Building’s Michigan Room
  • Learning Circle Film Series Discussions
    • “The Kalief Browder Story” 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, in the Centre for Engaged Inclusion
    • “Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin,” 4-6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, in Gannon Building, Room 2214. This event is being hosted in partnership with the LCC Employee Prism Alliance
    • “I Am Not Your Negro,” 4-6 p.m. Monday, April 2, in Gannon Building Room 2214
    • “The Anderson Platoon,” 4-6 p.m. Monday, April 16, in Gannon Building Room 2214
  • Field trip to the Jim Crow Museum at Ferris State University, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23. Reserve your seat in the Student Life office
  • Presentation and discussion about Cornel West, 2:10-4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, on the third floor of the Library
  • Creating Poetry – Creative Resistance, 4-6 p.m. Monday, March 19, in Gannon Building Room 2214

Black History Month is held nationwide every February to honor the achievements and history of African Americans. All employees and students are welcome at these free campus events.

Join LCC Radio for Cardboard Classic sledding race

Beat the winter blahs and join LCC Radio, 89.7FM and the Lansing Parks & Recreation Department at the 12th Annual Cardboard Classic Sled Race

When:                 Saturday, Jan. 27

Time:                Sled registration and judging begins at 1 p.m., racing starts at 2 p.m.

Where:               Gier Community Center (2400 Hall Street, Lansing, MI)

What:                 Participants build sleds made from only cardboard, paint, tape and glue.  Prizes for fastest sled, best wipeout, most creative and people’s choice.

Entry Fee:           $5 per sled

Borrow a laptop free for a month from the Library

LCC’s Library offers 380 laptops available to any student to check out for free for 28 days. The HP Probooks come loaded with Microsoft Office, popular internet browsers and other commonly used software, perfect for completing your papers, online classes or other work.
