Board of Trustees elects Hidalgo as chair, swears in new trustee

The Board of Trustees swore in newly elected trustee Samantha Wilbur and returning trustee Lawrence Hidalgo, Jr., at its Tuesday, Jan. 22, meeting. Ingham County Judge Joyce Draganchuk administered the oath of office for Trustee Wilbur, and Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum administered the oath for Trustee Hidalgo.
 
The Board also unanimously approved the nomination of its officers for a two-year term. Trustee Hidalgo will serve as chair, Trustee Ryan Buck as vice chair, Trustee Angela Mathews as secretary and Trustee Larry Meyer as treasurer.
 
As the new chair, Trustee Hidalgo made his first committee assignment by appointing Trustees Meyer, Buck and Robert Proctor as members of the Audit Committee. Trustee Meyer was appointed to the role of committee chair.
 
In addition, the board approved:

  • A $151,600 purchase order with Violin Systems to procure equipment and maintenance for a storage solution platform for collegewide integration;
  • A five-year, $264,320 contract with Sun Valley Foods Company to purchase restroom paper products for campus facilities;
  • A three-year, $276,000 contract with WGI Michigan Inc., an architectural and engineering firm, to perform consulting services on the Gannon Parking Ramp;
  • A three-year, $276,000 contract with Rowe Professional Services Company, an architectural and engineering firm, to perform consulting services on surface lots at the Downtown and West campuses; and,
  • A contract renewal with Consumers Energy to provide instruction for the Consumers Energy Lineworker Training Program, held at West Campus. The contract with Consumers allows the college to offer a program that results in direct hire to Consumers for students who complete. The contract is for one year with two one-year options to extend. The three-year total amount of the contract will be between $179,931 and $190,887, depending on the number of students enrolled.

The board will next meet 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, in the Administration Building Boardroom. Everyone is welcome to attend.
