LCC baseball earn World Series appearance

The Stars baseball team is headed to the World Series after the school’s first-ever victory at the regional championship.

Led by Coach of the Year Drew Huard, the Stars beat out Grand Rapids Community College and Kellogg Community College in the first rounds of the regional competition before facing a three-game series against Sinclair Community College. The Stars won the first game 11-9 off the combined power of the top of the batting order – Jake CrumAlex Huard and Carson Eby. In game two, the Stars fell 15-11 after an exciting back-and-forth game in which both teams put seven runs on the board in the fifth inning.

For the third and winner-take-all game, it was all LCC. The Stars outscored Sinclair 12-0, led by Andrew Brighton’s second complete game pitched in the tournament. He earned tournament MVP honors for his work. The Stars battery was led by freshman Drew Cantrell and Chris Lowe.

With the victory, the Stars head to Enid, Oklahoma May 27-June 3 for their first-ever appearance in the NJCAA DII Baseball World Series. The team is an eight-seed and will play Southeast Community College from Nebraska 11 a.m. Saturday.
