LGBT Employee Alliance Meeting

A small group of LCC LGBT and straight ally employees have met since last December to begin planning for an LGBT faculty and staff group, which was initiated as a result of LCC’s diversity planning. Participants have included Patti Ayers, Jeanne Donado, James Ferguson, Anne Heutsche, Dan McKean, Michael Nealon, and Daniel Thurman, as well as others who participated in early meetings. From those initial meetings, the group has adopted a new name—LCC Prism Alliance.

The mission of the Alliance is to educate, support, and empower Lansing Community College faculty and staff to establish and maintain a safe and inclusive environment in which all individuals may lead their lives openly and authentically.

The Alliance is inviting interested faculty and staff to join them as they begin planning a Safe Space training initiative, with the goal of creating designated LGBT safe spaces across campus where anti-LGBT violence, harassment, or hate speech are not tolerated. Safe Space is a nationally recognized program supported in many public school systems, colleges, and universities.

If you are one of those people, please come to the Alliance’s first open membership meeting on June 23, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in GB 244.
