The 2014-2015 One Book #OneLCC community read of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot is set to conclude on April 21st with a visit from the family of Henrietta Lacks!
Two of Henrietta Lacks’ grandchildren, Jeri Lacks Whye and David Lacks Jr. will visit LCC on April 21st to engage students, employees and the community in open dialog about the HeLa genome, the Lacks family legacy, memories of their grandmother, and associated topics.
Two fantastic events are planned in conjunction with Jeri and David’s visit to LCC On April 21st, both of which are open to the public:
Lacks Family Welcome Reception
5:30-6:30 p.m, Library, 3rd floor
This is a ticketed event and attendance is limited. Tickets can be purchased online for the minimum suggested donation of $25 each. Free tickets are available to LCC students.
Welcome Reception tickets include:
- guaranteed seating at the Lacks Family Public Presentation
- a fabulous appetizer dinner
- meet and greet / book signing

Lacks Family Presentation
7 – 8 p.m., Dart Auditorium
This event is completely free and open to the public with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis. Enjoy a presentation given by Jeri Lacks Whye and David Lacks, a question and answer session moderated by Health and Human Services Division Dean Margie Clark, and an open audience question and answer session. Don’t forget, Welcome Reception tickets will guarantee you have a seat at this event!
