Students Collect for Detroit

Students in LCC’s Introduction to Political Science (POLS 201) are taking on “Help Detroit” as their semester political project. Students selected this project as a way to provide direct support for city residents and mobilize political support in the state legislature for Detroit, now in the midst of bankruptcy proceedings.

Part of the project includes seeking donations from the LCC community of students and staff to help Detroit. POLS 201 students have identified these two organizations to provide direct support:

Alternatives for Girls, a non-profit agency that helps homeless and high-risk girls make positive choices and stay on the right track. Items needed include all hygiene products (full and travel size) and cash donations.

12th Precinct Neighborhood Watch, where community members mobilize to help keep their neighborhood safe. Items needed include flashlights and cash donations.

To help, please bring items to donate to Arts & Sciences Room 201, attention Professor Marc Thomas, no later than Friday, December 6. Contact him at thomasm6@lcc.edu with questions.
